To Quote Elvis, Merry Christmas, baby.

Howdy.

Been off the blog for a while. Been a little out of sorts.

Lots of crazy stuff has happened, some good some bad. I guess that’s just how the whole human comedy just keeps on perpetuating itself.

I am truly grateful for everything I have right now, but I need to make some changes, and I will.

I just can’t seem to get into the holiday this year. I just want 2009 to be over. This year has sucked.

I’m not depressed. I’m not down. I’m not really anything. Just tired. Things have not turned out the way I anticipated and I’m still rolling with the various punches thrown at me. It’s like I’ve been continually knocked down and I’ve continually gotten back up and this latest time I’ve picked myself up, dusted myself off…. and then looked around and received the stunning realization that I have no idea what to do next.

There have been some positives in 2009. But there have been a whole lot of negatives. A bunch.

They don’t outweigh the positives, but they loom large and it is my lot to either change them or deal with them. And I will.

And just because I am not really feeling it this year does not demean the spirit of the holiday one bit. Peace on Earth. Love to All. Groovy, baby.

Christmas lives, and it should.

Merry Christmas to all. Have a happy one. The Dude Abides.

Random Thoughts From The Bottom Of The Glass

- I always thought there were very few things more beautiful than a guy throwing a perfect pass with a football and another guy making a perfect catch. Then I saw linguere football with hot chicks throwing not so perfect passes and making not so perfect catches. Holy crap, was I wrong.

- I've seen more hotel rooms in the last 3 years than I have seen in my entire life. I understand how people get burned out on the road now.

- Buen-pre-vecho means enjoy your food. That's about all the Spanish I've learned in Miami so far.

- Only in Miami do you see a car with a business promotion on it and on the back of the car it says "We speak English, too!!!!" I'm not kidding. I've actually seen this.

- I have heard various people in my life talk about going to jail in a haphazard fashion. This boggles my mind to this day. To this day, I can't think of anything worse than going to jail. Maybe it was my parents, and my wierd facination with super-heroes... But going to jail is bad. I get that. It's insane to me how others don't.

- I was in a restaraunt and they played Sinatra and then right afterwards, they played Boston.... and it segwayed really, really well. Wierd.

- Here's how much I care about the World Series: they already played 2 games of it before I found out what teams were playing.

- Pam, one of the lovely barkeeps at Anthony's told me about her skimpy Wonder Woman costume for Halloween and the mental picture of Pam in a skimpy Wonder Woman costume just appeals to me.... on so many levels.

- The 70's were right...love really is like oxygen.

- I thought about going out this Halloween as Flava Flav, but nixed the idea for three reasons: I could never lower my IQ that far, I actually brush my teeth and I'm still relavent.

- When I see an ad for Michael Jackson's "This is it", I really hope that, indeed, this is truly, really "it". Because in regards to him, I was over "it" a long damn time ago. They should make a sequel called "This Is After It" where absoluetly nothing happens and many people are grateful.

I was looking at a Moosehead beer promo hanging on the wall of Tom's Sports Pub...it's the Moosehead logo with a fake moose head protruding from the middle of it. And the marketing gimmick truly works. I want another beer...and I really want to kill a moose. And for some wierd reason, right now I wanna do Sarah Palin.

Everything has changed, man everthing is changing.

Fuck it, Dude. Let's go bowling.

Rest In Peace, Edward Woodward

Hi.

Know I haven't been on the blog lately. Been busy being me.

I hate that I am coming back under these circumstances, but the geek in me is sad.

We lost one of the Great Ones today. Edward Woodward, The Equalizer.

See.... I'm a tremendous fan.

Because he was a tremendous actor. You can act, but it takes a Natural to bring charisma and presence to a role. Not many have the talent to acheive this. Woodward did it in spades.

I was a big fan of THE EQUALIZER. It is one of my favorite shows of all time, mostly because of the performance of this fine, fine actor. My parents thought I was nuts. How can our kid think this old guy is so cool? Well, he just was. Woodward's Robert McCall was one of the best characters ever to grace the screen. He was cool, man, he was just that damn cool.

He was great in any role he played, from Breaker Morant to Sherlock Holmes. Edward Woodward was THE MAN.

I have hoisted a cold Peroni in his honor this evening. And when I get home, I'm pulling out the 1st season of THE EQUALIZER on DVD and marveling at fine performance after fine damn performance from a true Original.

GOT A PROBLEM?

ODDS AGAINST YOU?

CALL THE EQUALIZER.

He was great in other roles, Breaker Morant and The Wicker Man being standouts. Here's some sampling of a magnificent actor's career.

A nice tribute by the BBC is here, as long as the link lasts.

On the subject of The Dank...

I am pleased to inform the universe that I have found my sports bar in Miami.

It is called Tom's. And it has The Dank.

I love The Dank.

Good food, full bar, hot chicks, football (American and Euro, a.k.a. soccer). Good times. Love it.

Let's give them a plug: http://www.tomsnfl.com/

So, I got a question from my dear friend, asking me... what is The Dank?

I feel inclined to share my observations on the phenomenon.

The Dank can hardly be described…but it can be romanticized. I shall endeavor to do both to the best of my meager literary ability.

The Dank is a very important part of any certain drinking establishment. The Dank is an ambiance, an atmosphere.

The Dank cannot be measured by high-class or low class establishments. Some low class establishments may be dark and gloomy, but they don’t have The Dank. Many high-class establishments have plenty of Dank to go around. The Dank should not be confused with gloom, though certainly, a little gloom helps. It is not something that can be seen, it is something that is felt. When you are in a good watering hole with The Dank… well, you just know it.

The Dank reflects the mood of times past and the promise of times to come. The Dank is ghosts of what-was, moving through you as you walk about the place…and The Dank is spirits-of-what-will-be, in front of you, awaiting the future and inhabiting the vibe of what’s yet to come.

The Dank is dark and light occupying the same time and space. The Dank is a place where if you move to the left, you can be in the shadows all alone with your torment... and if you move to the right… you can be in the light, laughing and drinking with old and newfound friends.

The Dank is part of a place where only another person can soothe your pain… and here….a couple stare lovingly in each other's eyes…. and there…. someone is looking longingly in a glass, deep in a dream of someone. Who knows? It could be you.

The Dank is a dark, cozy little environment...where, out of the corner of your eye, you see for the briefest of instants....Sinatra... with his trademark hat.... sitting at the end of the bar alone....with a drink and a cigarette...and when you turn to look... in that same instant, he's gone...and you could have swore he tipped his hat before he left... and the vision of a young, beautiful Ava Gardner flashes for just a second through the deepest recesses of your mind.

The Dank is a quarter to three.... and there's no one in the place... except you and me.

The Dank is a reflection of LIFE, it holds the memory patterns of shattered dreams, broken hearts, newfound loves, enlightened epiphanies, sadistic thoughts, creative endeavors, lonely nights and life-long unions… The Dank is a memory imprint of the world… and the LIVES of people who have LIVED at one time or another in that very place. The Dank is romance and The Dank is murder.

Many places do not have this quality because it cannot be manufactured. No construct builder or sterile corporate mentality can effectively produce or reproduce The Dank…it comes from the history of a place, the ghosts of people and events past… and the potential of people and events yet to follow.

You won’t find The Dank at TGIFridays. It inhabits the dwelling of wholly original drinking establishments throughout our world. That’s half the fun of The Dank… finding just the right place that’s got it. Then drinking with it like you would an old friend, because for some of us, that’s exactly what it is.

The Dank is The Dank.

You either got it or you don't.

And if you don't, you probably never will.

I love The Dank.

Random kaos thoughts!!!!

Hi.

Haven't done a lot of blogging/posting in the last few weeks. Been busy when I get home on the weekends.

Don't have a lot to say. Do have some random thoughts.

- Your Miami Dolphins have finally chalked up a win. I am pleased, regardless of how the season goes. It's already been a great year in the NFL. Perhaps, I'm just being Zen. But I love life.

- Ronnie Brown, I really appreciate what you bring to the Dolphins.
Thank you, you completely ignored by the media awesomely productive sumbitch.

- The Florida Gators are #1 and for real. What a great time to be a member of Gator Nation. GO GATORS!!!

- If there is one thing that I have noticed lately, it's bartenders who don't look at the bar. I'm serious. From a bar that holds 15 to 300 plus people, from Vancouver BC to Miami, FL, I have been to many a bar recently where the bartender does NOT look at their bar. Many a sad folk with tender, empty glass have tasted dust because of these neglective miscreants. Barkeep, these are my words, hear them: I learned from the greatest barkeep ever to WATCH YER BAR. You might get tipped. Or stalked, like Michelle. Either way, drunks benefit.

- Oh, and Michelle now has a boyfriend that is 40ish and has a good job. Hope he pays the electric. I keed.... because she is still my friend. Damn it. I'm done hanging out at her mailbox and reading her mail, though, that's for damn sure. Sigh.

- I know I'm a total and complete dweeb/nerd/geek when I see a children's comic called "Supergirl's Adventures In The 8th Grade" and I briefly wonder if its part of the DC Universe continuity.

- I love David Letterman now more than ever. And I've always loved the guy. And I'm not going to apologize for it.

- Brett Farve, after the game against the Pack, I have decided you are still THE MAN. Do it again against them in the frozen tundra later this year and there will truly be no doubt.

- I was asked by someone how many foreign countries I have visited and I was honest about it. I have been to 4 foreign countries: Mexico, The Bahamas, Canada and Miami.

- I think Campbell Brown on CNN is hot but I'm really not sure why.

- I have decided that I need to be more athletic. Therefore in the mornings, I roll off one side of the bed, then stretch, then go back to bed for at least 15 minutes, then roll off the other side of the bed. It seems to be working because I feel a lot more tired than usual.

- Miami needs more driving lanes. And they have plenty of driving lanes.

- There are too many people in Miami. When you have to shoot somebody to park, it's just gotten out of hand.

- According to Wikipedia, there are 362,470 people in Miami. The racial demo in Miami is 66% Hispanic, 12 % White, 22% Other and 85% Superficial.

- I'm tired of drunk people's issues. I'm drunk. I have issues. That doesn't stand in the way of me having a completely great time. It shouldn't stand in the way of you having a completely great time either.

- I am one of the few people in Doral, Florida that speaks English. Occasionally, I like to approach people here in "broken" English and ask if they speak Lithuainian. It REALLY fucks them up. And now they know how I feel.

- If there's one thing I have little tolerance for anymore, it's people that react to a problem by coming at me like I'm trying to hurt them. It's not constructive and it pisses me off. I have a message for people who come at me with attitude from here on out: F YOU. Because, God help me, I've tried to reason with people that do this for way too long and it has worked out... well, not so much. So, we're going to try it this way for a while. Again, those of you who approach me badly, FU. The voice of experience has spoken.

- I need a damn IPOD.

- Bruce Nessler, these are my words, hear them: We are gonna have a great time at the Robin Trower gig. I guaran-damn- tee it.

THE PARTY AVENGER busts it up the middle and smacktalks his way Thru THE GRUDIRON!!!!!!

Hello, programs. Party Avenger here.

Where am I? Oh yeah. Here.

I've been away.

See, Jackass Leebo is spending more time in South Florida. And, since I can't shake the bastard, so am I.

I like it.

There are a lot of women and there is a lot of stuff goin' down. My kinda place.

But I'm not here to talk about that.

I'm here to address the always-controversial Grudiron.

Here is how the synopsis of the Grudiron appears on CBSsportsline.com:

Welcome to Grud vs. Leebo!

It's a simple game played by simpletons. Two seemingly harmless guys pick the winners of the NFL games every week of the whole dang NFL season.

Only one man wins.

And He is exalted on high, as a man's man...men will worship Him, women will throw their panties. And He will be fed, a glorious feast, served by glorious females, in a most glorious establishment. Or maybe Hooters.

So, let the games begin!

I like Hooters. The food sucks.

Ya see, Leebo and his pal, Grudly Mankinko annualy hold a football picking contest.

Which is infinitely better than other picking contests they could possibly hold.

They disgust me.

This contest is called The Grudiron, a little play-on-words by The Grud.

But it should be called The Leeboiron as Leebo kicks his ass every single damn year.

Except for one year. Hey, everyone has a off-year. Me and Leebo are actually kinda having one right now. Except on The Grudiron.

The best year was when they were tied and Mike had the Radiers and Leebo had whatever-other-team-was-kicking-the-Raiders-asses-that-day. It was that game that decided the Grudiron winner.

I think it was the Chargers.

Leebo called Grud, who was listening to the last seconds of the game on Sirius radio. Leebo had it on the TV.

Last seconds of the game... Raiders driving to win... suddenly.... INTERCEPTION by JaMarcus Russell!

That was priceless.

Well, Leebo is up 4 games on Grud already in Week 5. And they won't be much different this week.

The idiots picked all the same teams to win.

Idiots.

Well, Mike Guerdon, since The Leeman is too much of a classy professional to admit this, let me tell ya something for him:

You will NEVER, EVER win the conveted Grudiron belt. Leebo shall kick your ass for all Eternity. Small children will be educated by your example of how not to be a complete human failure on The Grudiron. Songs will be sung of Leebo's Grudiron domination in the future, and history will judge you as the consumate and ultimate loser on The Grudiron. And you will accept the judgement of history.

Besdies, I'm fond of the belt. It spins. And Leebo lets me wear it to JC Penney when I go there to buy Dockers.

When I buy Dockers.

That's more than my take. That's reality.

Grudly Mandinko, I repsect you as the only other man to party as much as The Party Avenger. You are a valued ally and and formidable opponent.

But yer a Grudiron Gock.

That's the bottom line because The Avenger said so.

I would like a sandwich now.

Hello, I must be going.....

In the words of that great Sage, Bruce Nessler, Greetings and Hallucinations.

The Leeman’s back in town for some quick R+R. Been a strange couple of weeks in South Florida.

I stayed on the beach last weekend and watched the Dolphins suck. Man, what an awful game. Shit on every side of the ball. They looked like the Bucs back in the day of Jack Thompson.

(Figure JT-14 - They called him “The Throwin’ Samoan”. Then they threw him off the team.)

And to make matters worse, they play Peyton Manning and the Colts Monday night. But to make matters best, I’ll be there. I have secured a ticket to the game. Game on.

Been a strange one in Miami. Especially the last couple of days.

Leebo went to Coconut Grove one night. Got in later than usual.

So... at around 5:30am in the morning, the fire alarms go off at the Hampton Inn. And they are LOUD and SHRILL.

I bound from the bed, rip the smoke alarm off the wall and the noise is still happening. It burrows into my brain and every synapse is crying out in massive amounts of shirll, unadulterated PAIN.

I grab only the essentials...my laptop, my comics and my third season episodes of THE WILD, WILD WEST.... I leave behind unnecessary things like my wallet, clothes and car keys... and head for the lobby.

Me and many others (It's a 5 story building) all congregate in the lobby in our skivvies. It's nice to see that someone else is wearing Superman pajama bottoms.

So, false alarm, eveyone go back to your rooms, people.

I go back to my room, lay down, close my eyes... and my alarm clock goes off.

Not a good morning.

Work was less than fun as well. Stress.

Then Mike Guerdon gets the brilliant but cancelled idea to go to Bayside in Miami. I head on the Dolphins Expressway and miss the turn BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC and then wind up in Miami Beach and then find my way to Bayside only too start stressing because the Creed reunion concert is next door and I miss the parking garage because of TRAFFIC and I’m fucking stressing the whole time because of TRAFFIC, I’m sitting in my car going nowhere along with 50,000 other people, then I finally park and meet Grudly Mankinko for a steak and a beer and we have a few beers and a few laughs, we make fun of Robert Plant’s penis, based on a previous blog I wrote, (BTW, Robert Plant calls it Led Zeppelin Jr. His penis, I mean. Not Mike.), we make fun of a dancing baldie, and then the concert lets out and I’m stuck in TRAFFIC and don’t get home until almost 1am.

The preceding paragraph illustrates what life is like with Mike Guerdon. He’s a gock.

So, now I have lazed at home all day Saturday, which was most welcome. Tomorrow I get up at 4am and drive back down to Miami and do it all over again.

My life is really strange.
But it’s a living.
And good things are on the horizon.

Besides, I love being able to throw in an obscure Jack Thompson reference. Aloha!
