I was really looking forward to Frank Miller's THE SPIRIT.I saw it Christmas Eve.
It's a C movie at best. I wanted to like it. I really did. Rarely have I anticipated a movie as much as this one.
The above scene is not only one of the dumbest goddamn scenes in the movie, but one of the dumbest goddamn scenes I have ever seen in a movie. Period.
There's a few of those in this movie.
THE SPIRIT is not a complete waste. It looks beautiful. And you get to see Eva Mendes' bare ass. It looks beautiful too.
Samuel J. Jackson is all over the road in this movie. There's a line in this movie where he's wearing a Nazi uniform and saying something is "deader than Star Trek".
The scene is so bad that it made me want to watch "Plato's Stepchildren", arguablely the worst episode of Star Trek ever. Because as bad as "Plato's Stepchildren" is, it is still better than that scene from THE SPIRIT.
Samuel J. Jackson trying to be funny with terrible dialogue while wearing a Nazi uniform, or William Shatner with a midget on his back pretending to be a horse. From an entertainment standpoint, it's a tough call.
All the actors were good with what they had to work with. But.... something is missing.
Something is missing from this movie. And I think it's The Spirit.
I need to see it again to find out what went wrong.
I need to see it again.
On DVD.
